State colleges and universities get $600M to make it through the summer

SPRINGFIELD — State colleges and universities were saved from making massive layoffs this summer because of a $600 million stopgap bill.

Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas said the spending bill will help the “crisis of confidence” in state schools.
