The former funeral director of a long-time Rockford funeral home earns the democratic nod for coroner.

Frank Fitzgerald defeated Anthony “Tony” Gasparini in the primary election.  The two rivals actually have a history together.  Gasparini currently works at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home.  Fitzgerald will face Bill Hintz (R) in the November election.

Fitzgerald will try to succeed long-time Coroner Sue Fiduccia.  She announced last year she will not run for re-election, opting for retirement.   She’s served as the Coroner for 21 years.  She was first appointed in 1995 to succeed Dr. John Seward.  Fiduccia won the 1996 election and has been re-elected four times since then.
