Tricia Smith wins the republican primary for Boone County State’s Attorney.
Smith took 55% of the vote, defeating incumbent Michelle Courier. No democrats ran in Tuesday’s primary. Barring a late independent entrant into the race, Smith will automatically win November’s General Election.
Smith previously worked in the Boone County State’s Attorney’s office as an Assistant State’s Attorney. She also served on the county board in 2010.
Smith says she’ll focus on expediting trials. She says that’ll help provide relief for taxpayers if they don’t have to pay for long trials.
This race was especially historic, since this is the first time in county history two women competed to serve as the State’s Attorney.
