UPDATE (6:58pm) – Trump canceled his rally due to security concerns. ABC News says he met with law enforcement, who determined that for the safety of supporters and protesters, the rally should be canceled. Some in the crowd cheered once the announcement was made.
Illinois is a big target Friday for presidential candidates looking to pick up the state’s delegates.
No fewer than four campaign appearances are scheduled statewide tonight. The biggest appearance being Donald Trump’s (R) rally at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Thousands of supporters and protesters are inside UIC for the rally. At least one protestor has already been kicked out. Protesters flashed their signs and spoke through megaphones outside the rally. They say they don’t support Trump because he’s dividing the country with his views on immigration, among other issues.
Trump supporters say they like the fact he speaks his mind and they want someone in the White House who isn’t a politician. Protesters and supporters have been peaceful so far.
The event starts at 6pm.
