Eleven men and one woman are now behind bars after a joint human trafficking investigation between the sheriffs’ office and Rockford police.
Police say they’ve received multiple complaints of human trafficking in the area of 7th street and Broadway, as well as from various hotels across the city. Authorities say they arrested 27-year-old Brittany Marquez after they found her in the company of a 17-year-old girl. She is now facing charges for involuntary sexual servitude of a minor.
The teenager is now under protective custody. The twelve are all being held in Winnebago County jail. The case is still under investigation.
