Today, an Eagle Scout delivered a project, which took him a year to complete, to help veterans in hospice patients.
16-year-old Michael Wilburn, of Boy Scout Troop 40, put together an arrangement of blankets and raised money for veterans at Heartland Hospice in Rockford.
Michael says a simple ‘thank you’ to an armed forces veteran goes a long way.
“They’ve always fought for our freedoms, and they’ve definitely been mistreated in the past,” Wilburn said. “I’ve heard, during their pinning ceremony, which is where they’re given the blanket and a certificate, they’ve said this is the first time they’ve been thanked. They deserve a good thanks. They deserve to be appreciated.”
Wilburn said the hardest part of the project was fundraising to purchase the blankets.
