17-year-old arrested, 15-year-old injured, in Tuesday afternoon shooting in Freeport

A 17-year-old boy is in custody after shooting a 15-year-old in the leg Tuesday afternoon in Freeport.

Just before 1 p.m., Freeport Police responded to the shooting in the 500 block of W. Clark Street for reports of a gunshot victim there. The 15-year-old boy was found there, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

Shortly after, police located the suspected gunman at a home in the 600 block of W. Stephenson Street. A semi-automatic pistol was also found in the house. The suspect was arrested without incident. Police did not provide a motive for the shooting.

The 17-year-old suspect is charged with five counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Additional felony charges are being reviewed by the Stephenson County State’s Attorney’s Office.
