A 17-year-old is arrested for dragging a 45-year-old female family member by a car.

Police say they were called to the 2500 block of Rural Street just before 10 p.m. on Monday, where the victim explained she had been in an argument with the 17-year-old, who then began to drive off in her white Cadillac SUV. She opened the door to stop him, but instead, he accelerated, dragging her a short distance.

Less than an hour later, officers were called to an accident scene at the intersection of Washington Street and East State Street where the driver of the SUV struck a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

The driver ran away on foot but was arrested. He was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Vehicle, Hit and Run, Driving with Revoked License, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Obstructing Identification.

The suspect was taken to the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center.
