19-Year-Old Parolee Flees Police, Caught with Gun, Drugs

A man out on parole is arrested after fleeing police Tuesday night.

Michael Mallett, 19, of Rockford, now faces a long list of charges. Police attempted to pull him over Tuesday night in the area of N. Rockton Avenue and Cameron Avenue after he fled from County Sheriff’s Police earlier in the day.

He fled police once again before ditching the car and fleeing on foot in the 900 block of N. Court Street. Officers were able to apprehend him a short distance later.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police K-9 was called in and conducted a search of the area. It found a handgun somewhere along the path of where Mallett fled on foot. The gun had been reported stolen.

Officers searched the inside of Mallett’s car and found heroin and marijuana.

He’s charged with the following offenses:

  • Armed violence
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
  • Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession with intent to deliver cannabis and heroin
  • Resisting
  • No FOID
  • Fleeing to elude
  • No valid driver’s license
  • No front registration
