1st Human Case of West Nile Virus Detected in Illinois


The Illinois Dept. of Public Health has confirmed the state’s first human case of West Nile Virus this year.

Officials say an adolescent in west central Illinois got sick from the virus late last month.  The health department says the first human case came early.  It usually doesn’t show up until late July or early August.

Last year there were 77 human cases of West Nile Virus and nine people died.
