Three people are arrested and a child turned over to the Illinois Department of Childred & Family Services (DCFS) after a police chase early Wednesday morning in Rockford.
Winnebago County Deputies attempted to pull a car over for a traffic violation sometime between midnight at 1 a.m., at 8th Street and 12th Avenue, but the vehicle took off. A pursuit ensued, and ended when the suspect vehicle crashed at the dead end of 16th Street and 20th Avenue.
The diver and passenger were arrested after brief foot pursuits. A second passenger was arrested and a two-year-old child inside the car was turned over to DCFS. Police also recovered a handgun from the car.
There were no injuries.
The following arrests and charged were issued:
- Alvin Jones (driver), 22, of Rockford – armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated fleeing to elude, endangering the life of a child, illegal possession of ammunition, resisting arrest and several traffic violations.
- Elijah Chandler (passenger), 27, of Rockford – aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, illegal possession of ammunition, endangering the life of a child, resisting arrest.
- Saleena Gulley (mother of child), 35, of Rockford – aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (2 counts), possession of a firearm while FOID revoked (2 counts), endangering the life a child, illegal possession of ammunition.
All are being held at the Winnebago County Jail. A third passenger was released and not charged following the chase.
