The 40th annual Festa Italiana kicked off in Rockford on Friday. Crews were busy setting up Rockford’s second biggest festival at Boylan High School this afternoon.
Festa Italiana brings food, entertainment, Italian cultural exhibits, carnival rides and more for the entire family.
Some proceeds go towards a scholarship fund to help send kids to parochial schools.
Rob Adolphson, a volunteer for more than 20 years, operates the meatball tent and says the people who come out to the festival bring him back year after year.
“The whole crew out here, everybody out here, is like a family,” he said. “Especially with with the last name Adolphson! I’m not Italian at all, but I keep coming back out. I’m Italian one weekend a year.”
Festa Italiana runs through this Sunday.
