Police have arrested 44-year-old Maurice Bowden on weapons charges after a gun was recovered when he allegedly failed to stop for a school bus and then led police on a foot chase.

Rockford Police say that on Wednesday at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers saw a red SUV fail to stop for a school bus that was in the process of unloading children in the 1600 block of School Street.

When officers were preparing to stop the vehicle, it pulled into a driveway and two men got out.

One suspect, identified as Bowden, allegedly threw out a loaded handgun and ran from police. They chased him down and arrested him.

Bowden was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting an Officer, and no FOID card.

He was then taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
