Rockford’s big Fourth of July Celebration of Freedom is almost here and on Thursday, volunteers held their final tune-up meeting.
Mr. Fourth of July himself, Joe Marino, led the meeting between city and public safety representatives and volunteers. More than two dozen people give countless hours all year to make the parade and fireworks a success. They say it’s a labor of love they do for the community and Joe.
“Just to be a part of his memories and his journey as Mr. Fourth of July… that in itself is a reward,” said 21 year volunteer Heidi Hoffman.
The show is put on by volunteers and paid for by donations.
If you can’t make it downtown, we will air the fireworks live to patriotic music on WTVO 17. Our special coverage begins at 8pm and the fireworks start at 9:30pm. New this year, we’ll air the parade on Facebook Live at MyEyewitness starting at 7pm.
