Police seize 50 kilos of cocaine, other drugs and arrest one.
The Rockford Police Dept. announced Thursday it arrested Luis Ruiz, 58, in a massive drug bust. On Nov. 22nd, a joint effort consisting of the Rockford Police Dept., DEA, Illinois State Police, FBI, and the Attorney General’s Office, executed a drug raid at a home at 629 16th Avenue.
Officers encountered two people inside the home, a woman and Ruiz. The woman was released without charge. Inside, police say they found several drugs and other items, including:
- 50kg of cocaine
- 19kg of methamphetamine
- Fentanyl, a powerful pain killer.
- 2 guns
- $116,000 in cash
- 4 vehicles
The estimated street value of the drugs is $8.6 million.
Luis Ruiz is charged with 3 counts of possession w/intent to deliver a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance. Police also have a warrant for the arrest of Rafael Ruiz, 26. He’s wanted for possession w/intent to deliver a controlled substance and 2 counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
The younger Ruiz is currently facing drug charges in a separate case. He was also pled guilty on another drug charged back in 2011.
