The man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Rockford woman appeared in court to plead Not Guilty on Tuesday, to charges of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, Home Invasion, and Residential Burglary.
Prosecutors say that, in March, Matthew Harkey abducted a woman from her Winnebago County home and held her captive in a basement in Roscoe, where he beat and raped her.
Police say the woman was able to escape on her own.
Harkey was arrested the following day in central Illinois, following a police chase.
His bond was set at $1 million. He is due back in court on June 21st.
