All-electric ‘flying car’ takes off for the first time

Flying cars might be coming sooner than you think.

German start-up Lilium announced Thursday, May 16th the first test of its all-electric aircraft.

The five-seater jet has 36 electric-powered engines which can reach speeds up to 180 mph.

In a test run earlier this month, the unmanned aircraft hovered a few feet above the ground before landing successfully.

The victory puts Lilium at the forefront of a pack of  tech companies competing to launch the world’s first air taxi service.

The company hopes to have its aircraft flying in cities worldwide in the next decade.
