32-year-old Deangelo Statam, of Beloit, was arrested in Rockford over the weekend after police allegedly found drugs in his car during a traffic stop.

Rockford Police say they pulled Statam over on Saturday, March 23rd shorty before 7 p.m., at North Central Avenu and West Jefferson Street.

A K-9 officer detected the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, according to police.

Police say Statam then fled on foot. Officers chased him down and, after a brief scuffle, took him into custody in the 200 block of North Central Avenue.

Police also say that they recovered a baggie Statam discarded during the chase, which contained crack cocaine.

Two of the officers were treated at a local hospital for their injuries, which occurred while taking Statam into custody.

He was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine and Resisting Arrest, and faces several traffic citations.

Statam was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
