An alleged gang member was arrested by a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy after a police pursuit early Wednesday morning.
It started when a deputy attempted a traffic stop at 12:41am of a rental car with Tennessee plates at S. Pierpont Ave. near Hudson St.
The driver of the vehicle fled, and the deputy pursued until the vehicle became stuck attempting to drive through a field at Liberty Street and Concord Ave.
The Sheriff’s Department reports that after a short foot pursuit and struggle with the deputy, he took into custody 28-year-old Derick D. Patterson, a convicted felon who they say is also a documented member of the Gangster Disciples Street Gang. Two handguns were also reportedly recovered, one of which had an extended magazine clip.
Patterson, who was wanted on a probation violation for weapons charges, is in jail for felony charges including Aggravated DUI, Driving with a Suspended License, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, and 2 counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Street Gang Member.
