Alternatives to opioids considered at Rockford pain management summit

Local health care professionals gathered at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford to learn more about how they can help control the opioid crisis in the stateline.

A committee of Rockford health care professionals discussed ideas and past successes for alternatives to prescribing opioids for pain relief.

Physical therapist Josh Meyers, Director of Operations at OSTI, says education on pain management is an alternative to prescribing opioids.

“As a physical therapist, we are able to offer an alternative to opioid use, and to bring word to the doctors and nurses and pharmacists that we are here to show them that physical therapy is a viable alternative, versus a prescription written for opioids,” Meyers said.
