Rockford leaders, along with officials from the Chicago Rockford International Airport, have been hard at work this year.
On Monday, officials from both organizations were happy to announce that retail giant Amazon is building a new, 120,000 square-foot expansion at the airport.
Zack Oakley, the airport’s Deputy Director, said, “This is Amazon announcing they are here.”
The large expansion will also allow Amazon to park up to 8 Prime jets from Amazon’s fleet of 767 cargo planes.
Mayor Tom McNamara says the expansion will bring jobs with it.
“Today, they have about 300 employees,” he said. “This has the potential to double the amount of employees they have out there.”
The project is set to be completed by July of 2019.
