Officers tasked to a Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement Team have arrested another teenager in possession of a stolen car.

It happened Thursday night in the 1200 block of Island Avenue.  Officers say they saw three people get into a silver Ford Freestyle which had been reported stolen a week earlier.

As the officers attempted to stop them before they could drive away, the driver started the Ford and was able to flee west bound on in the 1200 block of Island Ave. with a passenger.  The third person, a 15-year-old male, tried to run from the scene but was caught and arrested.  He is charged with Criminal Trespass to Vehicle and Resisting arrest, and is being held in the juvenile detention center.

Investigators were able to recover a stolen Pontiac Torrent in the same area.  Both the Ford and Pontiac had been stolen after their owners had left them running and unoccupied.

Minutes later, a Rockford Park District officer saw the Ford Freestyle sideswipe another car northbound in the 500 block of S. Central Ave.  Fortunately, the 23-year-old female driver and her seven-month-old child were not hurt.

The two people in the stolen Ford remain at large.  Anyone with information is urged to call police.
