“Anything That Floats” Race Back Again This Year

News

The Rock River “Anything That Floats” Race is back again this year. The race returned to Rockford last year after a nearly 20-year-long hiatus.

Teams of up to 10 people are invited to build their own rafts or boats to sail down the Rock River. They can use any materials that don’t come from an actual boat. The idea is to make it over 1.5 miles from the Auburn Street Bridge, to the Prairie Street Brewhouse, without the raft falling apart.

Organizers say it’s a fun, creative outlet for people of all ages…but that’s not all it is.

“Part of it is for a good cause,” explained organizer Amy McIntyre. “So the money raised from our event is going to help the 4th of July fireworks show, Ski Broncs and also the Rock River Trail.”

There were also paddleboard, kayak and canoe races.
