A Freeport man will spend Christmas behind bars on robbery charges.

Police were called to the Mobil gas station and convenience store at 1111 S. West Ave. Thursday night to a call of a robbery that had just occurred.  The cashier told police a masked man had taken cash from the register and fled.  Officers searched the area but could not find any sign of the suspect.

However, on Friday, police received a tip that took them to a home in the 600 block of N. Turner Avenue where 26-year-old Jess Filson was taken into custody. The ensuing investigation resulted in felony charges being filed against him for the robbery.

Specifically, Filson faces felony charges of Robbery and Theft with a Prior Conviction, and is being held in the Stephenson County jail on a $75,000 bond.

Police Department say they were able to make the arrest because of the citizen who came forward with information on this case.
