Firefighters from the Rockford Fire Department worked to extinguish an attic fire on 17th Street on Monday.

Crews were dispatched at 3:15 p.m. to the 3100 block of 17th Street where a roofing crew had noticed smoke coming from one of the vents. The firefighters saw smoke and fire coming from the attic. They were able to bring the fire under control with the help of about 30 on scene firefighters and ComEd, who was called in to cut the power.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is thought to have been accidental.

The damage has been estimated at $25,000.
