‘Badges for Baseball’ Program Returns to Beloit

News

The Beloit Police Department is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club to bring back the “Badges for Baseball” program. The program gives people in Beloit collector cards of police officers. The front of the card has a picture of the officer, and the back has facts about the officer’s career, and personal life.

David Wilson, of the Boys and Girls Club, says, “It’s something that’s not [as] formal as a business card, it’s something about them, something personal. I think kids will gravitate towards them.”

Each officer also getting 1,000 cards to pass out in the community, but the department’s full deck won’t come out at once. Wilson says he hopes to release one officer, weekly,

He explains, “It gives each officer a platform, and a chance to build a relationship with community members that they may or may not have had the opportunity to do without these cards. We hope that it gives them an ice breaker.”
