Firefighters with the City of Beloit saved four dogs and a cat from a house fire on Wednesday morning.

The Beloit Police Department say they responded to an attic fire in the 2800 block of Deer Path Way just before noon, where they saw smoke coming from the roof area.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but four dogs and two cats were rescued from the house. Three dogs and one cat were given oxygen, but one of the cats died.

One of the dogs was returned to the owner. The other three dogs and one cat were taken to animal control for further treatment.

The fire is still under investigation, and a total estimation of damage is not currently available.
