Beloit Police arrested a 19-year-old man on Tuesday after he accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The man, Anthony D.S. Lowery, was cleaning a semi-automatic pistol at his home in the 900 block of Elm Street, when he pulled the trigger – unaware that there was a round in the chamber.

His life was saved by another person in the home, who quickly wrapped a belt around his leg. The Beloit Police officer who responded to the scene, around 2:25 a.m., was able to put a tourniquet around the leg.

Lowery is expected to survive.

Lowery, who is out of bail for armed robbery and other felony bail jumping charges in Rock County, is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

He faces an additional bail jumping charge.
