Police officers in Beloit are now all equipped with body cameras.
The cameras were part of a capitol improvement plan upgrade for the department. The more than half a million dollars in upgrades included the addition of in-car cameras and new tasers, on top of the 55 officers equipped with the body cams.
Chief David Zibolski says it’s all an effort to make the community more safe.
“I think the community can see that we are doing everything we can to maintain their trust, to build trust and let them know that we’re not afraid to record what we do everyday,” explained Zibolski. “99 percent of the time the police are going to be shown to be doing the proper thing.”
School resource officers within the Beloit School District are now also required to wear the cameras.
