Belvidere firefighters save apartment building from major damage

Belvidere firefighters quickly put out an apartment fire, saving the building from major damage.

Fire crews were called to 909 West Jackson Street around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Smoke could be seen coming from a second story window. Belvidere Police evacuated residents and firefighters were able to contain the fire. No one was hurt and residents were able to return to their homes. No word what caused the fire.

This same apartment complex was the scene of a fatal fire in back in 2017 that killed 36 year old Melissa Darlilng. Investigators called that fire arson.
