Belvidere firefighters take icy plunge in cold water rescue training

News

Some Belvidere firefighters took an icy plunge on Tuesday for some winter weather training, practicing ice rescue techniques.

Firefighters put on special cold water rescue suits and went through several training scenarios.

The department warns that “No ice is safe ice,” and warns the public that if they see someone go in the water, the best thing to do is call for help and keep a constant eye on where the victim is, rather than attempting a rescue.
