A Workforce Connection hiring event brings over 60 employers and training providers to the Belvidere Community Building. Employers look to fill open positions.
The job fair comes after two major companies announce closings. Shopko announced Monday it’s closing all of it’s stateline store and, over the weekend, Sears closes its store in the Cherryvale Mall. In addition, Fiat Chrysler announced it would eliminate the third shift at the Belvidere assembly plant in May, which would leave more than a thousand workers without a job.
Courtney Geiger, One Stop Services Director for Workforce Connection, says the job fair offers the many laid off stateline employees another option.
“We think this is a really good opportunity for people to come who have been affected by these and see what’s out there and the opportunities that are in front of them to stay here in this community,” Geiger said.
The hiring event will also connect applicants with resources to help them get the skills they need to get hired. It’ll be held Tuesday, March 19th, from 2pm – 6pm at the Community Building Complex at 111 W. First Street.
