Man arrested for using fake ID to purchase vehicle from Belvidere business

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — 30-year-old Stevon Williams, of Country Club Hills, was arrested Tuesday after police say he tried to buy a sport vehicle from a Belvidere business using fraudulent ID.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says Williams attempted to buy a vehicle from Hammertime Sports, at 2252 Anderson Drive, on Tuesday, July 30th, using fake identification.

A store employee notified police of the transaction and detectives arrested Williams as he returned to the store to pick up the vehicle.

Williams faces charges of Identity Theft, and Unlawful Possession of a Fraudulent Driver’s License.

He was taken to the Boone County Jail. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
