A Belvidere man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for a gang-related shooting death.

Anthony Perez was sentenced to 65 years for the First Degree Murder of Giovanni Galacia, plus an additional 30 years for Attempted Murder.  The terms are to be served consecutively, and Perez by law must serve the full 65 year sentence followed by at least 85% of the 30 year sentence.

Galacia was shot and killed as he sat inside a car on Lake Shore Dr. near N. State and Appleton in November, 2013.  Three men were charged in connection with his murder, but prosecutors say it was Perez who fired the shots that killed Galacia.

Police said at the time that the three men were searching for members of a rival gang, and that Galacia was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Of the other two convicted in the shooting, Ricardo Figueroa is serving a 76 year sentence while Ricardo Garcia was sentenced to 37 years in prison.

Editors Note:  An earlier version incorrectly identified Garcia as the shooter.
