Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble says his department will be beefing up patrols as they crack down on impaired drivers.
During the next two weekends, the 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th, additional officers will be available and dedicated to “Impaired Driving Enforcement” during the weekend hours when impaired driving is at its highest. The department was awarded $38,160 by the Illinois Department of Transportation to conduct the specialized patrols.
Off-duty officers will be hired back to perform roving saturation patrols. They will be deployed near high crash and high traffic areas throughout Belvidere.
Officers will be stepping up enforcement on seat belt violations during the same period of time.
