Architect Jeanne Gang, a Belvidere native, has been named as the Most Influential Architect on TIME magazine’s list of 100 most influential people for 2019.

Gang designed Chicago’s internationally renowned Aqua Tower, currently the tallest building in the world designed by a woman.

She is also the architect of the $38 million Powerhouse project at Beloit College, which will repurpose the decommissioned Blackhawk Generating Station on the Rock River into a 120,000 student center.

The Powerhouse project has already been recognized with a top prize at the World Architecture Festival.

Gang is currently building the 95-storey Vista Residences in Chicago, which will be taller than the Aqua tower.

TIME 100 is an annual list of 100 leaders, innovators and celebrities, which the US magazine deems to be global influencers. Other people to make the list this year include Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Ariana Grande and Samin Nosrat.
