The photo of a bright-eyed baby boy still brings a smile to his mom’s face every time. Baby Cillian lost his life while waiting for a liver transplant that never came.
“My kid is never going to get to have a first day of school, he’s never going to get those opportunities,” said Tiffany Jacoby, about her son Cillian, as she fought back tears.
Cillian was born without bile ducts, and was high on the list for a liver transplant. But Jacoby says a lack of donors cost her son his short life. Now, tributes to Cillian, in the form of sympathy cards and his ashes, cover their Rockford apartment. Dozens of sympathy cards arrived from all over the world, each of which Tiffany holds dearly.
And while no one can take the pain away, Lindsay Castranovo hopes to alleviate the financial burden through a benefit this weekend.
“Essentially, it’s just to try to help them get back on their feet,” explained Castranovo, “because I can only imagine what they went through.”
Castronovo never knew the Jacoby’s personally, but has been touched by Cillian’s story. She hopes to also raise organ donation awareness during Saturday’s benefit.
“To me, it’s just kind of a no-brainer,” said Castranovo, “I hope people think about that. It could save a life.”
“That’s my job now … to make sure that people remember that Cillian was here, and that he was loved, and that he made a huge impact on the community and around the world,” said Jacoby.
The benefit for the Jacoby family will be held this Saturday at Whiskeys Rockton Inn. It starts at 2 pm, and includes a spaghetti dinner with plenty of raffles and giveaways. Tickets can be purchased at the door for just $9.99. Click here for a link to the Facebook page with more information.
