Bicyclists honor fallen police officers

SPRINGFIELD – Dozens bike hundreds of miles to honor police officers who died in the line of duty.

For the 15th year, cyclists are riding across the state in support of the Illinois Concerns of Police Survivors. The bicycle ride raises money for surviving family members of fallen officers

The ride started in Alton, which is near the Illinois/Missouri border, and ends in Chicago. The group made a stop at the Police Memorial in Springfield Thursday.

“We get together and have conversations and get to know each other,” said bicyclist Mindy Carroll. “At the end of the day, we know we have each other’s backs because we are mainly here for these survivors.”

More than 60 cyclists are making the trip this year. They should reach Chicago by Sunday.
