Ogle County’s 2018 Relay for Life event boasts big changes.
For starters, this year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, April 21. In years past, the celebration has taken place in June.
Jennifer Wheeler is an organizer for the now-called “Festival of Hope”. She says instead of the event being an all-day, all-night affair, it’ll be in the afternoon from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the United Church of Byron (701 W. 2nd Street, Byron, IL). Wheeler believes the time change alone with make the festival more family friendly.
The “Festival of Hope” will also have live music, thanks to the local country cover band, “Love and Thunder” and will be the site of a live remote by 102.3 The Coyote.
A survivor brunch will precede the festival. It’s scheduled for 11 a.m. at the church.
The event is free and open to the public, however donations are welcome. Wheeler told Eyewitness News she hopes the “Festival of Hope” can drum up $30,000. While the event is in April, donations will be accepted through August.
