The Chicago Cubs winning the World Series is our pick for the biggest story of 2016.
Loveable losers no more, the Cubs won their first title in 108 years. It was a a remarkable ride. The team had to come back from a 3-1 deficit against the Cleveland Indians, the first team to do so since the 80s. Each successive World Series game set a Stateline tv viewing record on Fox 39.
Stateline school kids sang, many rejoiced, and for some it was emotional.
“Immediately I thought of my grandfather who’s 84 years old and lives in Southern Illinois and has been a Cubs’ fan his whole life,” said Lutheran High School Math Teacher Daniel Wiederkehr. “This is awesome.”
A local factory seemingly couldn’t print enough Cubs championship t-shirts.
“We have run 100,000 shirts up until this point for NIke,” said Co-owner of Guerilla Graffix Paige Cox.
