Bill to legalize recreational marijuana introduced in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) - The first bill to legalize recreational marijuana in Illinois was introduced January 25th, which would make the possession of marijuana legal in the state.

Illinois Rep. Carol Ammons (D-District 103) introduced the bill to the House floor, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The bill allows persons over the age of 21 to possess, consume, use, display, purchase or transport cannabis accessories; grow up to 24 cannabis plants on their own property; and possess up to 224 grams of cannabis outside of their property.

Bill HB 0902 also allows a person over the age of 21 to assist another person in following the above guidelines.

The bill also creates a 10 percent sales tax on the sale of marijuana when it's moved from where it is grown to a retail store.
