Holiday shoppers are a little more careful about spending their money this year.

The National Retail Federation says more than 154 million people shopped in stores and online on Black Friday weekend. That’s 3 million shoppers more than last year. But, each consumer spent on average $10 less than last year.

Last year’s average was about $300 per person, compared to $290 this year.

The Retail Federation attributes the drop to more discounts being available to consumers. The bottom line, according to the group, is that the weekend was strong for retailers, but even better for consumers.
