Block party kicks off five day art fest as public gathers to gaze upon new Rockford murals

News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Some downtown buildings are being turned into colorful works of art as part of Rockford’s “CRE8IV: Transformative Art Fest.”

The five day event kicked off Wednesday with a community block party, food trucks, and a live DJ as residents were welcomed to see eight new murals created by local and visiting artists.

The event is meant to unite residents and welcome tourists to the stateline, organizers of the event said.

“We need more things in the community for people to come out to and feel safe at,” said Danica Gray. “So, having something smack-dab in the middle of day, in the middle of Rockford, where everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy it, there’s no admission fee, it’s just come as you are, is wonderful.”

The festival continues through Sunday, which will include a firework display on Saturday night.
