A town hall style forum will be held in Belvidere Tuesday night, discussing the problem of underage drinking in the community.
It’s being hosted by the Boone County Drug Prevention Coalition. Community leaders and residents are invited to discuss and work together to find solutions addressing underage drinking. In 2012, 41% of high school seniors in the U.S. said they had drank alcohol in the last month. In Illinois, that percentage was even higher, at 47%.
Underage drinking is associated with an increased risk of negative outcomes like poor academic performance, violence and sexual assault and serious car crashes and fatalities.
Tuesday night’s forum is being held at Belvidere North High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend and refreshments and door prizes will be provided.
