Dixon, Ill. - There was an explosion at the Nutrien Ag Solutions on 1076 Corrigedor Road, just south of IL-30, on September 14, 2018 at 3:24 a.m.
According to fire officials, tanks inside the building exploded, causing a fire. No one was reportedly in the building at the time.
Lee County Police, Amboy Fire and surrounding departments, such as Sublette, Harmon and Dixon, reported to the incident.
The entire area, up to a two mile radius, was evacuated around 4 a.m. as a precaution, due to chemicals within the building. About 50 residents were asked to leave their homes, along with 30 employees of a nearby all-night business.
Ultimately, no hazardous chemicals were released, as the storage tanks remained intact.
The evacuation was lifted and residents were allowed back in their homes around 6:30 a.m.
