Reports of a man, with a gun inside a vehicle on Spring Creek Road, prompted a brief police standoff and a nearby school to go on lockdown.
Authorities were called in around 12:20 pm Tuesday afternoon by reports of a suspicious man inside a car at 5055 Spring Creek. Several agencies responded and found a white man inside the car, with what appeared to be a long rifle. Officers surrounded the vehicle and managed to take the man into custody in about 15 minutes.
The weapon inside the car was discovered to be a pellet gun.
The 35-year-old man is now being evaluated at a local hospital. The facility he was parked outside of at the time of the incident was a counseling center. It is not clear if he will be charged.
The police activity prompted Spring Creek Elementary to go on lockdown while authorities were on scene. That lockdown was lifted after the scene was cleared.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, Rockford, Loves Park and Illinois Police all responded, as well as Rockford Park District Police.
