Some of the area’s top law enforcement officials personally tell fans at Friday night’s high school football game at Auburn that spectators and players are safe.
Winnebago Co. State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato and Sheriff Gary Caruana greeted fans as they walked into Wyeth Stadium. They wanted to reassure parents and students after last Friday’s shooting off-campus. No one was hurt when those shots were fired.
“It’s a safe environment,” said Caruana. “It really is a good, family environment. People are coming and having a good time. There’s no reason to be afraid.”
“We’re here to show support,” said Bruscato. We’re here to demonstrate that we’re not going to tolerate it and that our football stadiums and school campuses in our community is and will be safe.”
Rockford Police did increase patrols in the neighborhood around Auburn as a precaution.
