Byron Neighbors Concerned of Possible Killer on Loose

The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office says the fire that killed a Byron mom and son is suspicious.  Now, neighbors are speaking out about the possibility of a suspect on the loose.

“We believe this is an isolated incident,” said Sheriff Brian VanVickle in regards to the new details surrounding the deadly fire.  “We are waiting on a number of agencies to provide information regarding the fire.”

He says that’ll help provide more clues into how the fire broke out.  The investigation revealing the fire started the night before fire crews were called to the scene early Wednesday morning.  So far, investigators believe the fire was intentional set.  However, they don’t believe there’s a threat to the public.

“We don’t believe there should be any fear for the neighbors or the neighborhood involved.”

Amber Beatty lives down the street from where the fire broke out.  She’s having a hard time coming to grips that a person responsible for the fire could be on the loose.

“My biggest concern would obviously be our kids and could there be someone dangerous nearby around them,” said Beatty.  “We have a lot of children in the neighborhood.  I would be very fearful for them.”

Beatty says neighbors have been shocked by the series of events.  But, she adds, “It’s a very tight knit community.  We all come together.  It’s just a nice community where we all know each other.  We have things on Facebook where we talk and communicate there and it’s just a very nice community where we all kind of know each other.”
