The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the suspect and victim in last week’s homicide at a Capron trailer park.

Police were summoned to the 500 block of Main Street in Capron for a welfare check at around 5:20 a.m., and when they received no response, deputies forced their way inside, where they discovered a dead woman, a male in critical condition, and three small children unharmed.

Police say Juan Cerda, 44, of Capron, was charged with one count of First Degree Murder for the death of Kenia Acosta, 26, of Capron.

The two lived together and had three children together.

The Boone County Coroner believes Acosta died from multiple stab wounds, but the exact cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Cerda was treated at St. Anthony Hospital and then transported to Boone County Jail, where he is being held on a $5 million bond.

The children were turned over to the Department of Family Services and are currently staying with family members.
