Update: Rockford Police arrest 19 year old Malik Jackson. Jackson was wanted on several weapons charges. Officers recognized Jackson shortly after noon Monday on the 300 block of Leather Court. Officers say when they attempted to make a stop at the intersection of North Avon Street and West Jefferson Street, Jackson fled.
Authorities say Jackson lost control after hitting an unoccupied parked car. The collision forced Jackson’s car to roll. Officers arrested Jackson after a short foot chase. Officers searched the car and found a loaded handgun.
Jackson and a female passenger were both taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. While at the hospital Jackson allegedly bit a staff member of the hospital and threw water at an officer.
Malik Jackson is charged with the following:
Warrant #1 ($100,000 Bond): Possession of Firearm without Requisite Firearm Owners ID Card, Aggravated Unlawful Use Weapon/Person/Loaded Firearm, and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
Warrant #2 ($25,000 Bond): Fleeing to Elude Police
New Charges (No Bond): Aggravated Fleeing to Elude (4 counts), Aggravated Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, Hit and Run, Several Traffic Violations, Aggravated Assault to a Police Officer, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No Firearm Owner Identification
The Rockford Police Department is on-scene on N. Avon Street for a rollover accident following a police pursuit.
The pursuit started on Jefferson Street and ended on N. Avon Street, where the suspect car hit a parked car. The suspect car flipped over and the parked car was flung into a neighboring yard.
Crime scene tape has been placed around the scene.
The driver fled on foot but were captured by police; police say the suspect was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
A female passenger was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
